How many times have you decided to do something and did not follow through? How many of your new year’s resolutions did you accomplish last year, or the year before? You can answer those questions however you want. The fact of the matter many people abandon their goals or break the promises they make to themselves every new year because they become uncomfortable. Comfort is a word cherished by the masses, but what they fail to realize is that success does not live in the comfort zone.
It is a natural tendency to go back to what you know, what you are familiar with when the going gets tough, even if you know that’s not what you want. Anyone can have a dream but it takes a courageous person to keep on keeping on until that dream is realized. It takes some resolve and the determination of “I am going to make it not matter what” to achieved your life long dreams, because it will not be easy, setbacks and temporary defeats will be on your way. To borrow the metaphor from Motivational speaker Les Brown, if you are waiting for easy you better take a seat, because that bus is not coming by, easy did not leave the depot this morning, easy had a mechanical breakdown.
The good things that are worthwhile in life do not come easy, you will fail at many attempts before you make it, but understands this, failure is nothing but a temporary condition. So it is nothing to be afraid of. However it is amazing to see how the fear of failure can cripple a lot of talented and ambitious people. You need to put fear in perspective to deal with it, it is just False Evidence Appearing Real, that’s all there is to it. What you want, wants you, no matter how difficult the getting may seem, it will be yours if you keep knocking on the door long enough and hard enough.
It is no secret that to get what you want you need to take on life rather than passively waiting for things to happen to you. That’s the reason why knowing clearly what you want out of life is a critical starting point. Do you have goals? By that I do not mean, just ideas on your minds, an imaginary list of things that you want to accomplish someday. Those are not goals, they are wishes. Goals are dreams with a deadline and they have to be written down. If you are reading this and do not have a list, I would suggest that you get a pen and paper and start jotting something down. Where do you see yourself ten years from now? How do you want to live five years from now? What do you want to accomplish in a year’s time, how about ninety days? Answering those questions would be a good place to start.
Are you going to make it no matter what? Are you willing to make the sacrifices it requires to get what you want? Are you willing to do what’s uncomfortable today so that you can enjoy comfort tomorrow? The choice is yours because you have the power within you. There are only two things that you can not make a choice on and they are change and death. For change, remember the words of Ray Norda, “Cause change and lead, accept change and survive, resist change and die”. For Death, know with certainty that it will come. For anything else, take charge.
